Michael Kamber website

Good friend and NY Times photographer Michael Kamber has a newly designed website showcasing some of his work from the last few years.

Mike has worked extensively in Africa from east to west, as well as Iraq and Haiti, and has strong material up there well worth a look. Mike is one of a handful of photojournalists I know who also writes news reports on assignment - which is no mean feat when you are filing photos on a daily basis - and some of these reports are readable on the site.

I particularly like his “Children of War” project: (from his description)

“I never set out to photograph children of war, I simply looked at my photos one day and saw how many images showed children caught, often literally, in the crossfire”

Camera Armor

Camera Armor

Photographer Chris Titmus points out in this Lightstalkers thread a new piece of kit to protect your digital prosumer SLR. Dubbed “Camera Armor” it appears to be a protective custom-moulded rubber casing for various prosumer SLRs, but not your EOS 1D or Nikon D2X types. The company website also lists similar “Lens Armor” and a heavy-duty camera strap that doesn’t look too bad. The site has more pictures and a FAQ page.

Can’t really see this being of use for most photographers, and if you really needed to throw your camera around you’d be better off with a metal-chassis high-end model, but perhaps it could be useful for certain situations… and perhaps the rubber dampens the noise which might find a use in court scenarios.
