Arabic translation

Posted by Ben in General, Middle East

Non-Arabic speakers who sometimes need to read arabic websites now have an easy option. Google has added English-to-Arabic and Arabic-to-English translation to its set of online translation tools enabling one to translate either a block of text or an entire website - in either direction.

I’ve no idea how accurate it is but this is how this site looks in arabic using the system.

Google’s Arabic to English translation tool is the best thing out there, and its free. I find it works pretty well on longer formal works such as news stories or government websites but it can get unreadable with short colloquial phrases.

    hi Ben,

i’ve had a look at it, and it’s a mixed bag. google translates word by word…and it can be incomprehensible at times. some whole sentences make sense…while others do not. i’d say it achieves 50% readability. it’s better than nothing, and as david said, it’s free.

That’s what I figured. It’s the same as most translation tools - you can’t rely on them but to give the basic idea of an article they’re pretty convenient….
